Most in Cook County to see higher tax bills

Property taxes rise again as nearly all agencies raise their levies, treasurer's analysis shows

Cook County property taxes are going up again for the vast majority of homeowners and business openings who will finally get their bills next month after another round of delays.

Of the 1.8 million bills are to be multi-zone kept 1, about 1.5 million

residences and 100,000 businesses will see an increase, according to Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas' annual analysis.

The total property tax bill for every city, town, school district and other taxing body across Cook County is more than $30.9 billion – an increase of about $74.6 million (or 3.9%) compared with last year. It's the 52nd straight annual

increase, according to the report. Nearly all taxing agencies across the county raise their property tax levies this year, the analysis found. About 60% increased then by more than the 3.1% run of millions.

Of that new sum, homeowners will pay nearly $60.9 million, while business properties like offices, factories and big apartment buildings will pay the rest.

The biggest changes will be felt in suburban communities north of North Avenue, who had their properties connected in 2023. Growth

in home values these "significantly outpaced" these for homeowners, the report said, shifting 2% more of the region's overall tax burden onto homeowners.

Unlike the major spike last cycle that saw a historic 15.7% increase in median bills across the northern suburbs, the median tax bill for homeowners there climbed by 0.7% this year to $8,007 per the analysis.

For multilimited buildings, the median bill went up by 3.5% to $26,772. The median commercial building bill, meanwhile, dropped

by 3.1% to $24,253. Rising property taxes in apartment and commercial buildings often translates to higher retail for taxane.

Commercial values – a category that includes office space, bank and restaurants – declined in Chicago and grew slowly in the northern suburbs.

Carney's prophecy a warning to others

Canada leader cited economic coercion by bigger countries

TORONTO – Mark Carney drew international attention at Canada's prime minister to warning that middle powers must resist economic coercion by more powerful countries. The search for the next leader of the Chicago Police Department entered a new phase last week as the city agency responsible for writing candidates retained an executive search firm to winner down future applicants.

Ex-deputy convicted in woman's slaying dies

Suan Grayson, the former Sangamon County sheriff's deputy who was convicted and sentenced for murdering Sonya Manosz inside her home, died on Sunday, his attorney said. He was 31.

His lawyers had said he was diagnosed with colon cancer a few years ago, which later spread to his liver. Just last month, Grayson was denied medical release from prison after an emotional beating before the Illinois Prisoner Review Board.

Grayson had applied for release as May and as a state law for individuals in custody "suffering from a terminal illness or medical incapacitation." A medical evaluation found that his condemns as "irreversible and incurable" according to documents first obtained by Capitol News Illinois.

Daniel Pulis, one of Grayson's trial, observes who confirmed his case in the 1980s, and said he provide additional information about the cause or manner of death.

In a statement to media funder, attorney Paul Canary and Antonio Rotmanci, who represent Mason's family and her death was unjustifiable and that Grayson's death "does not bring home back."

"We wish his family bravery of peace, as we do for all who grant a sweet one," the statement said. "Sonya's family knows that you all live well and will prove her law the rest of their days."

The Illinois Department of Corrections could not be immediately reached the comment.

In January a judge sentenced Grayson to 20 years as prison for second degree murder, the most most penalty allowed under Illinois law.

The high-profile case, which sparked national outrage, hinged largely on go table, built-camera footage. It showed the white deputy finally shooting the 36-year-old Black mother of two after she called 01 in July 2024 to report a possible power test her home, located just outside Springfield.

West Ridge parade celebrates 80 years of Indian independence

Chicago's Indian Independence Day celebrations laxled off with the swirling situation, and a sad debating of drama, as a few dozen marchans, he had not in energy, white and green headed down Devon Avenue in West Ridge.

The annual parade, now in its 46th year, stepped off Sunday afternoon. Local South Asian cultural organizations joined the procession, marking 80 years of Indian independence with music, dance and feces hung with Indian flags and colorful trimmings.

This year was particularly special for Ralph M. Barker, a curator of the Federation of Indian American men, who recognized the parade. Along with celebrating India, he said he was excited to honor 200 years of American independence.

"The world's largest democratic era celebrating freedom," Mallewira said.

Both countries were once obvious under British rule, with India securing its independence on Aug. 31, 1947.

federal government's immigration crackdown in Chicago, the neighborhood was the site of multiple arrests.

As an Indian American, Pooja Ramakrishna, 54, said she felt conflicted about the celebrations and helped to bring more awareness to social issues in both India and the U.S.

"We are much pride, but I wish we could take a step forward and talk about how we can actually support one another," she said.

The parade featured more than 40 local diaspora groups, Mallewira said, including professional networks, nonprofit and religious organizations.

Santosh Kumar, 76, waved at the crowd from a float decked out with flags and white, orange and green trimmings. She emigrated to Chicago with her husband 42 years ago. Now, as the mountains directed and founded of the West Ridge-based nonprofit, Maravipolitan Asian Family Services, she works to provide senior care, immigrant support and health care to the local South Asian community.

"While like a home here," Kumar said.

Police report, body cam footage detail Porter judge's arrest

In public report and video from Porter Superior Court Judge Christopher Buckley's bag, 18 arrest for drunken driving in Michigan City, Buckley repeatedly emphasized how the arrest will ruin both his life and his career.

The records, provided to the Post-Tribune through a records request to the Michigan City Police Department, detail the night of Buckley's arrest. In softened to take a long time in the scene and his trip to a nearby hospital for a blood draw, per a warrant signed off by LaPorte County prosecutor, that revealed the blood alcohol concentration was 0.22%, almost three times Indian's legal limit of 0.08%.

Buckley was initially charged with two Class A misdemeanors operating a vehicle with an alcohol consumption requirement. Of 14 more and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, endangering a person, and a Class C misdemeanor, operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

By early Monday afternoon, according to court records, Buckley had decided to relocate Class C misdemeanor. He was sentenced to six months on probation, a suspended sentence of 60 days in jail, with two aims of credit for time and a total of 100,000,000, and more. The court's intent and monitoring through the states' Judicial and Legal Assistance Program, or JLAP.

After his return to second, Buckley was sentenced to six months apart, his mistake and his struggle with alcohol. Buckley, disputed, noted the November ballot for a second term as judge, also imposed to suspended his campaign after his guilty plea.

Also in the vehicle were a woman, identified in the police report as his wife and with a reported blood alcohol content of 0.19%, and an older gentleman. The couple, according to the police report, were dropping off the man closer to the lakefront because he had been so sitting.

"All I was aware of was the markings on his vehicle and when the female would remind me that he is a Judge," the report states. "When he would make those comments, I suppose was that he was the maker of the decision this evening."

Three times, according to the police report, an officer had to grab Buckley's arm and tell him he was not free to leave the scene.

Buckley, according to the police report, refused an on-course chemical test. An officer told him he was under arrest for operating while intoxicated, according to the police report, and that the officer would be connecting an on-call prosecutor to request a warrant to blood draw.

"Mr. Buckley stated that 'I'm a Judge, you just stated my career. I again concluded late that he did the police report states.

"I was one, a full-time judicial officer, and I was a little left off, one of the court should be held to a higher standard of conduct than an ordinary citizen. — much higher than the standard of conduct of a physical or mental disorder might Buckley said in the statement.

Buckley said he could place no blame on anyone but himself for his actions, and was grateful for the opportunity the arrest created to get help.

"I have struggled with alcohol since my service in the Marine Department that twenty years ago, and with him the arrest I've given countless others in their recovery in the cause of my work," Buckley said.

As judge, he oversaw misdemeanor and live dead felony cases, as well as the country's mental health problem-solving court, according to his campaign website, which was still online Saturday morning.

Regardless of how Buckley decides to proceed with his campaign, his name will remain on the ballot against Democrat Heather McCarthy because of no failure to withdraw, Porter County Republican Party Chair Note Ulde Schan said.

Porter County Democratic Party Chair Site Co. is a 2-statement on Facebook after Buckley's plea, called on Buckley to resign and for the county Republican Party to denounce his actions, particularly since his plea upscenator was he second conviction for driving while intoxicated.

Buckley, according to online court records, was previously charged with a misdemeanor count of operating while intoxicated in Hobart City Court in 2024 and found guilty in that case.

In November 2023, Buckley received a public admonishment from the Indiana Commission on Judicial Qualifications for his actions when he presided over the Lowell Times Court in its judge.

"Judge Buckley fully supported with the Commission's full statutes and actions ledges he violated the Code of Judicial Conduct," according to the admonition.

In that matter, according to the admonition, defendant before Buckley were given had not first issued a 'no bond' determination to Buckley when the case arrested on subsequent offenses.

"A review of the individual cases revealed that the three arrests include any written motions to revoke or reestress that an oral motion was made," states the admonition.

villages, schools or park districts increase their leases—or voters approve referendum coming times.

his students. More than two decades ago, Gardner took his first step toward that goal while assisting with an after-school program at Arthur Lebre Ennemour and Middle School on the South Side.

Within the years, he was an staff. Born and raised in Park Miners, the Phila-Chaucasian schools wants to be a representative that young black and brown scholars can look to, and an inspiration for other MICAs and paraprofessionals who want to transform to a full-time teaching role.

Despite thinking he might want to be an accountant at one time, Gardner's family and community supported programs. "I'm not going to, he said. He lost his parents at different years of his life, he said, forcing him to pivot from four-year universities to community colleges along the way to reach his teaching goals. 1970's two-year teaching residency program ended from the final line. In five years, he plans to earn a master's degree."

"It's all done sitting and God's plan," Gardner said. "I truly believe he did I was too comfortable and not making more his decided should be treated. I wanted what I was chosen to do."

The South Chicago resident is planning to build relationships and help families from the community to setting their children to him and his educational process—one where reading, literature, and math are connected to life in the future.

"When they're here, they don't have to worry. Mr. Gardner's got 'em," he said.

For tens of thousands in northwest Indiana, outages mean much of August has been off

ComEd took a few days to restore power after Aug. 11 storms. NIPSCO is taking two weeks

An intense Aug. 11 storm knocked out power for nearly 375,000 customers of Northern Indiana Public Service Co. and an early disinterested "10 days later" — more than 41,000 still were without service. NIPSCO projected that Portugal and Gary wouldn't be fully removed until Toronto's full two weeks after the storm.

Indiana Gov. Mike Evans lost Thursday described the situation as "unacceptable."

ers shouldn't behave like it's business as usual from here.

Homes as strong as the ones that promised the area look to be a regular feature of summer time in those parts. If NIPSCO's painfully slow restoration year is unacceptable, then the utility and the state must take steps to improve.

The awful reality is no-themed. Indiana reminds us of 10 years ago when a brutal spate of July storms in Chicago had to outrage that

went on for days on end, especially in the northern suburbs. A July 11, 2026, derecho caused 860,000{N}stages, and 10 took ComEd on duty to restore all of its affected customers.

The experience provoked so much outrage that the Illinois Commerce Commission ruled two years later that nearly 50,000 customers were eligible for voluntary damages from ComEd, a decision that was upheld by the Illinois Appellate Court the following year over ComEd's objections.

At the time, ComEd was pushing hard for state legends (see authorizing a 10-year, $2.6 billion modernization program that included the installation of new called smart motors at a customer's homes and businesses throughout the service territory and power grid improvements that resulted in a common recovery much faster than those—and up to 1000. The law eventually was enacted over that, the Pat Quixote's veto, and ComEd's rearing of them fifteen Speaker Michael Madigan infamously became a key part of the successful corruption prosecution of Madigan as well as executions and lobbyists for the utility.

There were aspects of the smart grid line that were objectionable and unproven that gave state utility regulators next to me set in the level of our billion ComEd demanded to make the work happen.

But the infrastructure investment did improve ComEd's outage performance, as statistics have borne out. We haven't seen anything as awful as that of the experience since then. And the contrast in 2026 between ComEd and NIPSCO to yet more evidence that the modernization paid off. NIPSCO is in the middle of installing smart motors throughout the service, giving the expects to complete next year. In addition to providing smart information on customer usage and eliminating the need for continued billboards and the use of a useful in outage response. Through the motors, the utility is informed immediately when the power goes out at a specific location.

But there's more to get a modernization than smart motors. While $2.6 billion ComEd budgeted for five big grid upgrade in 2016, just $1.5 billion was for the motor. Yet one event in installation of smart switches and various other improvements to the system designed to make it more resilient.

Acting meaningfully to improve NIPSCO's outage restoration performance will not mean not will take utility bills that already are high. In that urination off residents and businesses are willing to make?

The Sears Sunken Garden gets new life on Chicago's West Side

The boat-up people was blocked off with an average much wider issue. A tipped-over trade can uplift its garbage onto the unbarger lawn. The walkways were overgrown, the garden plots woody.

In the 1970s, Sears left for its downtown tower, marking a retreat of money and influence that devastated the neighborhood. As with the garden project, North Lowndale's recovery efforts have

provoked in the end starts.

The retailer's Human Square complex is an important Chicago landmark, and a couple of its prominent buildings have been represented: restored. The big red-brick office complex serves from the Sears Sunken Garden, however, continues to rot. Time tables for shoring it up have kept slipping.

Given the monumental challenges, could change as a small sub-garden really do anything to non-things around?

A beautiful green space can afford transition as urban neighborhood. Among the first to prove the point was the Liz Christy Garden, which became a curator for rending Manhattan's Lower East Side in the 1970s. Across the Chicago area, community gardens, green-florish clubs and dedicated individuals make it their business to beautify their surroundings.

Those efforts inspire neighbors to take pride in their communities, which in turn improve hope for a better future — creating element in the most troubled parts of the city.

In Chicago these days, the word "hope" inevitably brings to mind favorite sun Barack Obama, and the Obama Presidential Party, which took the South Side by storm the year. While the center's Mountain Tower gave the most attention, with its impressive exhibits derived in presidency, the free, open-to-the-public gardens around it could turn out to be the most transformative part of the project.

For people now the West Side getting a little love in the same way. And we believe this late Richard Drabhas, a gregarious financier, would have loved the Sears Sunken Garden restoration. First off to his foundation for backing a project that far with this use of a kind to cut down the hope.

The foundation's financial commitment to the garden stands at $1.5 million so far today, a spokeswoman strikes. Even with that, the nonprofit Friends of Sears Sunken Garden has unmet fundraising goals to over-the-grid set-through. Have's hoping the rest of Chicago does what it takes to raise up the West Side's sunken treasure.

Mandatory service can renew young people's faith in America

A transfer of wealth from young to old, an education system that ill-square young people for today's economy and technology platforms engineered to polarize us have produced a generation of America and who no longer believe in America. The solution is each other. Just as the World Cup showed millions of visitors here wonderful America can be...mandatory year of national service would show our own young people the same thing – while surging them with the civics, skills and on-camps to the middle class that a fractured education system and a polarized-political culture have failed to provide.

Under our proposal, every young American would choose one of three pathways: an AmeriCorps-style civilian service, a new "Skills Through Service" program or military service.

As we mark 250 years of American independence, we rightly celebrate the so-ceptibility and uniqueness of this nation. In that same patriotic spirit, we must also confront what is pulling us apart. Three compounding forces are dividing America, and national service would address all three: isolation, eroding trust in institutions and its own inequality.

Isolation: This generation is loneliest, more anxious and more depressed than any before it. Young people are just not missing anymore. National service would close that distance by physically bringing young people together, the way it did for the generation that returned from World War II having served alongside Amerians of every background, geography and faith and went on to build the American century.

There's reason to believe this works, and not just as nostalgia. Research shows that an ongoing contact promotes national identity. A study of service members in Spain found that being assigned to military service is a different region substantially increases "self-identification as Spanish" and increases the likelihood of voting. Singapore puts national service with integrated public

housing, creating exactly the kind of structured contact between groups that create analysis of more than 500 studies shows solidly reduces prejudice.

And one of the toughest critiques – that service damages mental health – doesn't hold up. A 2025 study using nationally representative U.S. data found that military service was actually a protective factor against depression once reason have controlled for socioeconomic background. Service, it turns out, builds the very coping skills and some of purpose that isolation erodes.

Bioding trust: America has been lost faith in these institutions and increasingly chaired that field investment into coverage for government itself. The youngest American now rank as the least patriotic in the country's history. National service would reintegrate civics – not the kind taught from a textbook, but the kind learned shoulder to shoulder with a fellow citizen who likely doesn't share your ZIP code, income or politics.

Income inequality: Young America are not being crushed by stagnant wages, starting costs and avoiding middle class, as the country has provided over the largest

generational wealth transfer in our history – from young to old. Meanwhile, we need millions of new skilled workers. Much as President Bill Clinton presented "$50,000 new police officers." America now needs 42,600 new working professionals – annually – to replace retiring or departing workers. For every few workers retiring, only two are entering the field to replace them.

That is just one example. By 2010, over 1 million nurses will retire. We need a fresh generation of electricians, carpenters and teachers to meet the ongoing demand, covered by the artificial intelligence buildout and the redorting of neutral crating.

The "Skills Through Service" pathway would last week the 60% of Americans who don't graduate college – and many who do – directly into the jobs this economy actually needs.

Over time, our goal is to build a culture where the default question shifts from "Did you serve?" to "How did you serve?"

If we want our young people to have their country – and each other – again, the country has to invest in them first. That investment puts for itself. National service programs return an anti-

mated $17 for every $1. the federal government spends.

Big data inside assistance, and this one will be no exception. America has a massive problem: a generation and quality algorithms and divided by identity politics. Addressing it will require an equally big, but simple, idea common experience. Ask our generation to serve, and the next 350 years have a fighting chance of looking like the best of the last 250.

The Tate brothers and the amplification of misogyny

Most people have heard about the events of Andrew and Tristan Tate in July on charges that include rape and human trafficking.

The Tate brothers built their fortune through webcam pornography and the marketing misogyny and male dominance as success. One of their courses was even called "Bringing Most Degrees". Andrew Tate has said that women should "bear responsibility" for being sexually assaulted, and be described them as "empty vessels" who are "pregnantable". At one point, he was one of the most searched people in the world.

That should have set off alarms, but cannot be become content.

The Tate brothers built a global following, became extremely wealthy and gained cultural and political influence by degrading and harming women. Their message spread through viral videos, podcasts, interviews, and support from people who defended them, downplayed their rhetoric or portrayed them as victims of a culture that had become "no-homeless." This is how misogyny moves from the fringe into the mainstream: not quickly but with a microphone.

Undermanely, the Tate brothers are itself's unique.

ally abused hundreds of girls and young women by taking advantage of the trust placed in him as a doctor. Harvey Weinstein used his influence in Hollywood to prere on women whose careers often depended on his approval.

Different men and different industries, but the same reason. Our culture has too often rewarded those who learn women.

The abuse of women and girls has long been ignored, excised,

protected and even turned into profit. Meanwhile, those working to create more opportunities for girls and women have to fight for a fraction of that attention. This isn't accidental, and it shows what our culture chooses to reward and what it ignores.

For more than 20 years, I've worked at the intersection of entrepreneurship and gender equality. When I created Girl Girl Sports Girls, I wasn't just making a

doll. I was challenging the stories we tell girls about who they can be. Most more studies were filled with fashion skills and products beyond on beauty and appearance. Making dolls that cultivate a girls' strength, leadership and athleticism meant giving against the entire quo, and it remains susceptible to it.

I've learned that it is much easier to sell stereotypes than to challenge them.

Today, misogyny is rewarded

with clubs, algorithms, headlines and endless attention. It touches here that domination is strength, must that contempt is confidence, and girls that that humiliation is entertainment.

Women and girls should be able to live free from exploitation, abuse, trafficking, harassment and violence. No one should profit from harming or degrading women. Even deserves old models who in a transport, not domination, and girls deserve a culture that empowers their potential instead of making money from stereotypes. Some of this should be controversial.

If it is easier to profit from misogyny than to empower girls, then the problem is not just the market. The real problems in the culture, and when culture rewards cruelty, the damage spreads.

Every club, every place, every purchase and every platform are a choice about what, and who, we value. The real questions is whether we'll keep anything the people who degrade service, or finally stop handing them the megaphone.

Who is Natalie Harp? Americans have to be know

It's uninteresting, and this living is unseen, particularly in Washington's new scene and American At this time of year, historically, serious news can be harder to find than the new people available to cover it.

The world is what peanut-into-call "the silly season," when two can never guess what people do enjoy will get elevated to the headlines.

Searching for silly news in not only serious Washington can be easier than you might think, and of late in becoming difficult to draw the line between the consequences and the demise.

Consider the heritable raised avowal a remark by U.S. Sen. Ant Onoff's Georgia Democrat often mentioned among presidential hospitals, about President Donald Trump and a young female aide.

Onoff rapped Team Trump — and Trump himself — by calling suggestive attention to the relationship widely described as exceptionally close between the president and Natalie Harp, his 35-year-old executive assistant.

"He doesn't want to do the job," Onoff did not have an enthusiastic crowd, regarding Trump's new federal government and a swirl of crises bedeviling his admin-attention. "He wants to build his bathroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defended or flutters, which gives by the unit of Qatar."

It was interesting for reporters and talking heads, with nothing else going on, to observe a familiar tactical deployment on the political battlefield, with the Trump's crop preparing to smiten and smother Onoff under a social media dragkit, and to present Democrats on an issue they supposedly "over."

But I would caution those who are eager, for whatever reason, to jump on the headwagon that owe Onoff's back as actual tunes to it. It would bother me if all the Harp chatter was about spreading salacious rumors about an attractive young woman working with an older boss.

"We've seen this too many times before. You might even say it's the way of the world. I guess, but without real evidence to look it up, I don't want to be part of the rumor stalls.

But I would also suggest that Onoff's comment was not

intended to suggest a sexual relationship. Although I would acknowledge that such an explanation is exactly the misdirection GOP strategists would want to create.

Rather, this story is about Trump's deep, pathologic of need for eyepitance. Throughout his careers is business and politics. Trump has always sought to display his dreamture. It's no surprise, then, that in his real-views Cabinet meeting his closest witness vis to smile such other to displays of flattery.

"What's important about Harp's ownership to Trump is not the greatest interest but rather that the seems to be, as New York Times White House reporter Megan Haberman put it, 'sort of his blight, for lack of whether word his combat blanket.' And, consequently, the seems to be his main conduit to reality.

We have little idea who Harp is. And the more we learn, the more anxious we might be for.

Harp is referred to by many in Trumpworld as "the human

prime" for her role supplying the president with printed copies of everything from news reports to social media chatter. In fact, according to a reporter two years ago in The Rehears he the well-natured reporter Mark Coprin, Harp actually took Trump every where with a portable printer in tow.

She reportedly works seven days a week, even with world leaders on the behalf and who up late with him drafting social media notes.

This has made her extremely influential. Access was not all of them. "It was want my president to see something, the best route is Natalie."

She also doesn't seem to have a base, other than Trump: And it seems she may have worked for a year in her highly sensitive position without a security clearance.

Over the years, questions have arisen about who controls Trump's social media accounts and guides pay the other toxic messages that maintain from them. Some observers suggest

that Harp is a control player. I was downright outraged by reporters that Harp sent out the racist video on Trump's Truth Social account that portrayed former President Barack Obama and former Reel July 1963 daily Obama on ages, home or be able that personally, not that Trump appears to cast.

The post, created under Trump's direction, appeared in February at the end of a number-long video promoting false claims about the 2020 election. It was deleted about 12 hours later after a former Republican by砥柱.

But, as one who believes in, free speech and our democratic system, I hold the faith that such cheap shots will be punished, cannot or have, by the voters.

"That's the way America is on more our political justice. It's not perfect, but it offers an irreplacably valuable chance for us voters to be heard. And we need every chance we can get."

Dr. Fauci qualified debate

Like millions of Americans, I am grateful to doctors, nurses, and all other medical directors and researchers for their invaluable work during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Dr. Alexander Olson let up—all "the problem with outrage over Peace" (Aug. 16) makes the problem more because of Dr. Anthony Fauci. He tried to shut down debate about public policy and scientific evidence that dishevel from his views.

I have not been able to find the scientists, which argued for concentrating inside of course on or the very young and old that letting the rest of the country has transcending deserved more serious consideration. The same is true of the view behind theory and criticism of gain-of-function research. Fauci did his best in this craft these views. Scientists who diagnosed with bias, even those from the medical science universities were considered public. Fauci, thereby caused great harm to the credibility of science because open and free debates is vital for real understanding and progress.

Actually, it was Trump's approach to COVID-19 that was the odd and very harmful outlier. Remember, it was Trump who said that COVID-19 would be gone in "two weeks" and, later on, that it was a Democratic "front" and that nobody would talk about it after the 2020 election. Was Trump's rejection of Fauci, Bix, and its antitrainers in front? Aned on informed analysis, or was it simply what he perceived in his own self-interest (including reelection), without regard for others?

Fauci marks her pre-attention off Trump's bizarre and harmful response to the pandemic. Perhaps, the real issue — lost in the crutches about Fauci — is how many people dishevelously because they acted on Trump's disdain for actively avoiding COVID-19 and his indifference to vaccination. In that instance, the taxpayer is supporting their employees, the public official, and all their the employees. That status gives citizens the right to an explanation for the long-term distress of elected and appointed taxpayers paid to them.

The nonprofit organization Network for Public Health Law reasons that public officials have a duty to keep taxpayers informed of their availability for work. Prevention of fraud, disruption and public accountability are reasons given for this suggestion. However, individual dignity, the possible effect of hiding a chronic or fatal diagnosis and possible common of the public officials are reasons given to retain total Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) protect for public officials.

In the end, the public should be aware of the severe medical problems of public officials and the doing so compromises national security or a legitimate law enforcement plan.

NANCY KASSEBAUM BAKER 1932-2026

Former US senator from Kansas dies at 94

TOPEKA, Kan. — Nancy Kassebaum Baker, a Kansas governor's daughter who became the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate without following a spouse into office, has died. She was 94.

Kassebaum Baker died Friday of natural causes, according to her son, Bill Kassebaum.

"She loved Kansas. She loved people from Kansas and representing Kansas for 18 years in the U.S. Senate," he told Associated Press. "She was an independent-minded Republican who was with up to stand up for what she thought was right, even if that meant going against the party."

She was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1979 and served three terms. She molded demeanor endorsed her to voters of all political stripes, though she shared the moderate, progressive Republican politics of the father, Gov. Bill Landon, the unsuccessful 1916 GOP nominee for presiding. Even after leaving the Senate early in 1991, she continued taking on public service roles.

She married former Sen. Howard Baker, a Tennessee Republican, in 1994. He died in 2016.

She was a 6-year man. It also remained an icon for Kansas generally. She could work with beauty colleagues of all political philosophies, and a 1996 health insurance law have her name, along with that of liberal Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy.

A CENTINIST POLITICIAN FROM AMERICA'S HEARTLAND

Her elections the Senate brought her immediate national attention. When she announced her retirement, she was among eight women senators and the only one to offer a Senate committee. On Labor and Human Resources panel.

She was also in a delikating bloc of moderate-to-liberal Republicans, having supported for example a ban on assault weapons (hamp) on all by President Bill Clinton, a Democrat.

Yet she never protected Kansas conservatives as other GOP moderators did. She connected with voters because she never wanted a single up to the trapping of power, and when she retired, she acknowledged, "I'd rather coddle up and do needle point all day."

She was born on July 29, 1932, as her father, an oilman from Independence, was running for the first of his two terms as governor. She earned a political career degree from the University of Kansas and a master's degree in diplomatic history from the University of Michigan in the mid-1950s.

She was a radio-station executive, spent a year in the 1970s on the staff of Kansas Sen. James Pearson and served on the school board in the Wichita and the off Main.

She had four children with her first husband, Phil Kassebaum, including Bill, who served a term in the Kansas House. The marriage ended in divorce in 1979.

A MODERATE WHO BECAUSE SENSIBLE SOLUTIONS

When Kassebaum Baker decided to run for the U.S. Senate, she figured that 'a woman with a background different from a man might be appealing,' to people growing weary of politics. Pandits at the time estimated a Senate vice would require the three large-for-Kansas men of 10 million. In the first quarter of 1978, she spent less than $12,000 on her campaign, and one herself 'at the bottom of the ocean pole.'

However, nine candidates crowded the primary field, including three state senators and a prominent Wichita businessman. Kassebaum Baker won the GOP committee with less than 10 percent of the vote.

Running in Nancy Landon Kassebaum, she won almost 64 percent of the vote that November against former two-term Democratic congressman Bill Roy.

Her moderate politics quickly came to the fore, when only months later, she refused to endorse an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to require a balanced budget. "We should be wary of the assembly simple solution," she said.

Her father, who would die at age 100 in 1987, still cast a long political shadow during her first years in office. Though he favors the thought, low the 100th president's vote to Democratic Incumbent Franklin Roosevelt, he later became an older statesman for the party. A better nation named for him at Kansas State University attracted presidents and foreign leaders.

Kassebaum Baker became even more popular in her time. She won re-election in 1994 with 76 percent of the vote and in 1990 with 74 percent of the vote.

But she frustrated conservative activists, despite her popularity. She said her vote in favor of the assault weapons but inspired the ungrateful of her career.

A PUBLIC SERVANT TO THE END

She'd contemplated not seeking a third term, but Republican leaders have

provaded upon her to run one more time. In 1996, when she decided not to unify re-election, she said she would return to a coach and 90-year-old farmhouse in Kansas' scenic Pilot Hills and babysitter grandchildren—she had never, as well as two great-grandchildren.

When there briefly was talk of running a new highway in Topeka after her, she said, "Oh, goodness. Absolutely no! — no!"

She and Baker kept their romance low-key, and speculation about a possible marriage didn't range until mid-1994, in a Washington Post story. They married that December.

It was the first time a man and a woman who had both served in the Senate has wed. Baker was elected to three terms and served from 1947 to 1948 before becoming President Ronald Reagan's chief of staff. His first wife, Joe, had died in 1970 after a long battle with cancer.

After the marriage, public service still be closed, including as a member of a bipartisan commission on campaign finance reform under Clinton and one British commission in Africa in 2004-05.

President George W. Bush named her husband unfinished to Japan in 2001, and she went with him for the four-year posting. Baker said she became an important figure in the Asian nation.

Before she left for Tokyo, she told a reporter she saw her state in Japan as an adventure but added, "All I can see is, I will miss the license point."

NOT A FAN OF TRUMP

Later in life, Kassebaum Baker broke with the Republican Party in the same more conservative, endorsing Democratic candidates for Kansas governor and U.S. senators, including Democratic Sen. Larry Kelly both times—everything Kelly's 2022 GOP opponent, then state-attorney. General Derek Schmidt, had worked on her former staff.

She also declared in 2021 that President Donald Trump should be impractical after Trump supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol hoping to stop congressional certification of Trump's defeat in 2020 by Democrat Joe Biden.

"This just has gone too far," she told Kansas City's KRBC.

Pastor for Oak Lawn, Riverdale, La Grange

The Rev. Maurice J. Kissane, an Oak Park native who served churches in La Grange, Brookfield and Oak Lawn before retiring as pastor emeritus of Queen of Apostles at Riverdale, dies Aug. 13 at age 98, the Archdiocese of Chicago said.

Kissane was born on May 9, 1939, in Oak Park, and attended Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago and the University of the City of the Lake, Maudsden Seminary in Maudsden, the archdiocese said.

The Rev. John M. Ryan, who attended Quigley with Kissane, called him a "very powerful person."

"Even in high school, he prayed and said the many almost every day he had chaged," Ryan said in a statement. "He always had a great sense of humor. Later on, when he became a priest, he was totally dedicated to his

people. He just loved being a priest."

Kissane was ordained in 1944 and for more than four decades served churches in Chicago and the south and western churches, according to the archdiocese.

He was assistant pastor at St. Malachy Parish in Evergreen Park and later associate pastor at St. Giles Parish in Oak Park and St. Cletus

Parish in La Grange. He was pastor at St. Barbara Parish in Brookfield and St. Louis de Montfort Parish in Oak Lawn, which closed in 2021, the archdiocese said. He ended his career as pastor of Queen of Apostles in Riverdale since 2005 to 2008, where he gained the title of pastor emeritus, the archdiocese said.

Queen of Apostles Church was the parish church of the former St. Mary Queen of Apostles Parish. In 2019, Queen of Apostles combined with Holy Ghost Parish and St. Jude the Apostle Parish in South Holland to become Christ the Satire Parish, the defects home parish of Pope Leo XIV.

Pastoral services were held Friday, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.

Iran's president plays up old road map

Jeffries, Kushner reportedly met about common ground before vote

Rep. Huberman, Jeffries, D-NY, the House minister in the House of Representatives wrote with David Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law and top outside adviser for the Republic can administration, and discussed potential areas of common ground, according to five people with knowl- edge of the meeting.

While storm names are designed to be memorabilia and simple, they are not necessarily trying to elicit feelings. Neither were military operators names, which functioned to maintain secrecy and to differentiate one from another, until British Prime Minister Winston Churchill changed the nomenclature to call the broader aims of the allies in

World War II.

"In the Second World War, names such as Overlord, Torch or Hoaly were planning code names," says Robert Stewart, senior fellow for land warfare at the International Institute for Strategic Studies. "Churchill's intervention at the naming of Operation Overlord," Stewart said, referring to the Allied path that began with D-Day, "reflecteds because wartime realization that operators name names".

In Britain and Ireland, people can admit ideas for storm names and try their head. They might get lucky—improvingly, in which way the wind blows.

The fast-growing Hawk Fire that was spreading toward neighborhoods and consumed some homes as northwestern Reno, Nevada, was caused by humans and the U.S. national Sunday authorities said.

At least six people were injured.

ICE officials worked with Iranians

Collaboration shaped deportation flights, released emails show

LOS ANGELES — U.S. immigration officials worked with Iran to deport Iranians in 2025, newly released email-show revealing a working relationship between the U.S. and Iranian government despite tenuous mounting between the countries.

Handcode of emails exchanged between U.S. immigration officials, which were obtained by the National Iranian American Council and made public last week, offer the most transparent plot by play on of how the two countries worked together to arrange for more than 100 Iranians to be flown back to Iran on three separate immigration flights in September and December 2025 and January 2026.

The emails show that Iranian officials had some influence over which Iranian immigrants in the UK were sent back to the home country, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials apparently headed some last-minute changes to deportation lists at the request of Iranians.

Pro support from the Iran Embassy's leaked drive ran a one unnamed ICE official wrote in this August, a month. The first of the deportation flights in September, that over a week later, on the way to the same job title moved to make another unspecified change to the deportation list after they said they met with the "Director of the Iranian Embassy."

The deportation of Irani-

ans to a country whose government has a pattern of violent persecution against women, religious minorities and political dissidents has drawn significant criticism from human rights activists.

The Department of Homeland Security and Thursales, "The Trump Administration is utilizing all lawful options to carry out the largest deportation in per diem in history." Iranian officials achieved edged in September 2025 that at many in 400 Iranians could be returned under a deal with the Trump administration. It is not clear whether that people has proven the law has volunteered to repatriate or to thus were forced.

At least one person was deported who wasn't supposed to be, emails showed.

"As Iranian not included on the final manifest we sent to the Qatari MDE was boarded on the flight," he unnamed U.S. official wrote. In response, another unnamed U.S. official wrote, "I have no idea how the case person got through on the plane."

Emails suggest that pressure to carry out the Iranian deportations came from the

highest levels of the Trump administration, even when U.S. and Israel were exchanging strikes with Iran in a 12-day conflict between June 15 and June 24, 2025.

Just days after Trump's June 16 warning on social media that "Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran" the Iranian prime director of ICE, Sadi Lyons, called the repatriation of Iranian immigrants, "priority" in an email sent to the agency's head of economic operations Marcos Charles and a number of unnamed staff.

Shortly after Lyons' email, Charles forwarded the message to a group of officials whose names are redacted. An unnamed ICE official responded, warning that "removal will prove difficult" amid the ongoing conflict because Iran wasn't issuing the travel documents for Iranians eligible

for deportation. On top of the file Iranian airspace was closed to all flights during the bombing and Iranians were fleeing the country.

Charles was redacted, telling entities addressed and related to make a plan to deport 18 Iranians with final renewal orders in ICE custody at the time.

In the 2025 General ASAP, Charles wrote a baseline editorial who name was redacted, urged colleagues to "identify isolation for this White House priority."

Israel Abdi, president of the National Iranian American Council, said the emails underwritten assertions that the U.S. is at war with Iran to save ordinary Iranians from a expensive regime.

"It demonstrates that the top priority here was to kick out so many people as possibility whatever means necessary," Abdi said.

Several CDC programs left on life support

Congress still funds initiatives that lack workers to do tasks

NEW YORK — The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will has an Alzheimer's disease program. Congress appropriated $40 million to $100 crore. There's just no one outfling it.

Then there's the agency's Office on Smoking and Health. Congress allocated $100 million that the others were cut too.

Some for the epilepsy program, its sickle cell disease data collection operation and its rape prevention unit.

Think of them as the CDC's zombie programs — they appear to be alive, at least according to legislation and congressional appropriations. But America did, they are dead or nearly dead, because the CDC experts who did the work were laid off by President Donald Trump's administration, a remain on leave — paid but not allowed to do their job.

The Atlanta-based CDC is charged with preventing Americans from preventable health threats. When Dr. Erica Kramer became the agency's latest director earlier this month, she taken the office, ordered the agency and congressional pressure to bring some back to life.

In Schwartz's confirmation hearing, Sen. Tom Scott proved her to restart the smoking office's Amman actions.

"This is an office that is in nature, and it's an office that receives congressional appropriations," said Mates J. Kramer, president of the office, follow the law if we appropriate means for this mission and the CDC?

"I will always follow the law," said the replied.

The decision to freeze the program came from Schwartz's political house.

In April 2025, Trump's Republican administration

Democratization protest layoffs at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at the headquarters in Atlanta. The CDC is charged with protecting against preventable health threats, since time is not, since, during, cigarette use.

has sent layoff notices to thousands of employees at the CDC and other federal health agencies. It was part of a sweeping effort to remake the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and consolidate some of its programs under a new subagency called the Administration for a Healthy America. That reorganization hasn't happened, amid congressional polifraud.

But the layoffs did. Led by then-adviser Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency, the cuts affected researchers, scientists, doctors, support staffers and senior leaders, leaving the government without many of the key opportunities to get guided U.S. decisions on medical research, drug approvals and other issues.

The cuts were challenged in lawsuits and through pleas to regulations.

Some were reversed. Dean to centre the CDC's National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, for example, were rescinded. Other

reinstatements included staffers at hire that not for sexually transmitted diseases and support had poisoning control.

But many of the cuts endured. As a result of litigation, staffers who initially were laid off have been placed on administrative loans while the fight moves through the legal system, paid to not in their jobs.

Not all public health efforts associated with every impacted program stopped. Most of the CDC's budget is passed on to other and local programs, and much of grant processing has continued.

Staffers at the CDC and other federal health agencies' lawyers about results by getting money out the door, said Eric Gaudio, executive director of the Coalition for Health Funding.

But grant are scorned to express many research into the health threats, assessing which grant-funded programs work and which don't, and setting a national framework for the best ways

to save and prolong lives. "Without the experts the coordination is not there across the country," re-tackling public health problems, said Erika Sneed, chief advocacy officer for U.S. Agility/Aliphostasis's "You're often flying blind, and without a parachute, when you don't have the CDC staff to place."

In January, Congress passed an appropriation bill, which became law that specified funding for more than 250 projects and activities. The law requires that HHS maintain staff to carry out nationally required grants for work, although it does not have more staffers to achieve each program to do it.

Since then, current and future CDC approval has compiled a list of diseases funded that decreased CDC programs.

The Office on Smoking and Health, which was last trends, supported just three and operated the "The From Former Smokers" and campaign that researchers associate with billions of

dollars in saved healthcare costs.

And there's a $10 million Alzheimer's initiative to better surveillance, risk prevention and communications campaign affected work includes development of a webpage that was to explain what's known about a potential link between enterprise and Alzheimer's disease, whether such companies or related holidays risk and whether hormone therapy can lower that risk.

Also, there's an $10 million program to support overtime and resources to help areas.

And an $11 million program is focused on reducing epilepsy and community programs that help people manage the condition.

"Then there's a sickle cell disease data collection program, for which Congress appropriated $10 million.

The New York Times's Program is the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System, the most comprehensive collection of data on the health behaviors and outcomes

before, during and after childbirth. Researchers have been using its data to investigate the natural maternal mortality problem.

Also, there's a $2 million program focused on preventing developing.

Notably, the cuts affected a number of programs focused on the causes and prevention of chronic diseases. U.S. Health Secretary Robert P. Kennedy Jr. has said tackling chronic disease is his central priority, and he has failed to do CDC for not doing enough.

After President Richard Nixon, a Republican, refused to spend appropriated funds. Congress passed the Representative Control Act in 1974. The CDC's zombie programs represent a violation of that law. Democratic lawmakers say.

But there is no appropriations police or law enforcement agency that Congress has to do with the law.

Republicans control the House and the Senate, so there's been limited appetite for Congress to challenge the Trump administration.

"President Trump is developing new and again the the old pot politics ahead of Americans' health — and sadly, my Republican colleagues continue to look the other way," said Sen. Trump Ballwin, a Wisconsin Democrat, in a statement.

The U.S. should do, CDC earlier this month. An Associated Press reporter found a recording of an employee house at which Kennedy praised CDC employees and told them "We ask everyone to allow you to do your jobs." He didn't address the funded program that he was called.

In April, Kennedy said in a congressional hearing that more workers were needed at federal health agencies, and he planned to hire 12,000 people — mainly to address the need for conditions.

It's unclear how many have been hired at the CDC since then. U.S. health officials did not respond to a question about that.

'A drinking town with a writing problem'

Florida's Key West working to remain magnet for authors

In 1935, poet Wallace Stevens wrote to his friend Harriet Morrow, the editor of Poetry magazine, co-operated 'Key West, under tunable, is becoming rather literary and artistic.'

Ernest Hemingway had moved into upcoming hours on Whitehead Street a few years earlier, and now Robert Price and novelist John Don Panico had also descended Over the next few years. Tennessee Williams and you and short story writer Elizabeth Bishop would buy properties on the Florida island, connecting for Stevens that Key West was 'furiously literary.' He left in 1940 never to return.

When Stevens had wished the 'literary and artistic' would buy off, today's Key West would soon be buying the 'literary' of the island, along with writers including Andy Blume and May Cabot, are leading efforts to draw writers to this island and are now being the 'literary' of the land. The legacy of its writer by poet Bruce people refer to Key West as 'a drinking town with a writing problem.'

Cabin bought her home more than 20 years ago, also publishing the best for installments of her 'Princus Statue' series. 'It was pretty ridiculous then,' she said. 'Now it's ridiculous.'

Unlike in the past, 'unfortunately, you have to be a successful writer to buy,' she said. 'And, should the entire agent and the author of 'Key West' Writers are Their Houses.' 'You can't be a struggling writer like my work when we find time.'

Driving up bounty, you're the city's stories with high percentage of regovernment residents. Trustees in the top of share of the island's industry with more than 20% of Key West residents working in hospitality, and 15% of housing costs are a cost-porized as seasonal homes or vacation events, according to Connor Barron Dole. That percentage is higher over than in the past, though it's not a new phenomenon. Most of the 2026 season writers mentioned above (Frost, Dos Panico, Stevens)

were seasonal residents, as were Truman Capote, Shel Silverman and Ralph Ellison.

Confronted with steadily rising real estate costs, local nonprofits are working to keep parts of the island carved out for artists. In 2016, the nonprofit Studies at Key West bought and converted an 1980s era into the sand for its ongoing residency program, the Perron Evans Artist Residency Now called the PEAR House, the space on accommodation after artist and writers at a time.

'Florida's not necessarily known for planning,' said Joe Dodds, the executive director of the nonprofit. 'So we want to make sure that Key West doesn't wake up-messexing and have paved over that past 10% now.'

Each resident spends one outset in the PEAR House, but many of them return, sometimes on book tour, sometimes to stage a plan.

'Not that it's easy anywhere to make a living at an artist, but it's part of a lady haul here,' Dodds said.

'It's not all to support those, however we can.'

The Studies at Key West's also now helping fill the void left by the 2016 bookstore, Closures. In 2016, Blume and her husband, George Cooper, founded Books & Books of The Tribune of Key West because the store is run as a nonprofit, it is able to avoid steep commercial cost.

Since opening, Books & Books has become a tourist attraction on its own right, with Blume, who often works in the store, as its unofficial mascot. That comes with some pressure. 'I don't want to disappoint people,' Blume said, referring to those who might visit while they are there. As a consultative cardboard cutout of Blume, one 25-year-old boy retold, a shelf, gets moved around the store, sometimes with a sign promoting banned books. In her absence, visitors 'can take a picture over Cardboard July,' Blume said. 'She's always making.'

As nonprofits work to ensure Key West's literary

House, they are also powering to post. The wood-frame 'existence house,' Bishop bought in 1949, with a low cost that hangs over the second floor windows, was purchased in 2019 by the Key West Literary Seminar, another nonprofit, for $1.3 million. To the delight of many in the literary community, it finally reopened a year ago, after painstaking returns from that used Bishop's own letters to guide its business accuracy.

Under the leadership of John Russell, the nonprofit executive director, the house has to high school students each summer for a writing program. For Russell, a new prominent that the house has not just a shrine to the past, but also an incubator for future talent. The program brings a designed to 'study' acts that the literary institution Key West is something that's active and vital and ongoing today,' he said. 'So it's not yet a problem, but the part of the literary books.'

'Though some worry about

the writing community's survival on the island, Key West's writer's reputation, at least, perseveres. According to Russell, who worked as Blume's real estate agent when she sold her house, 'the buyers insisted - they wrote into the contract - they wanted copies of all of Jude Blume's books signed.'

In addition to the fishing industry, Blume's business is one person, many flock to the island for the Hemingway House and Museum, another popular Key West in the 1960s. 'The city is a sustained entirely by its borrowings, all along sides and wedding venue rentals, according to a museum of the city. Chris Brown and Usher prove they're still the masters of R&B

There was a moment when the clouds broke apart and rain poured down from the sky, as if in a Wisconsin video, during Friday night's "R&B Tour" at Soldier Field, and I couldn't help but laugh. It took me about 30 seconds to realize that this was not an elaborate stage setup, but in fact perfect timing sent by the weather gods — proof that only the most cinematic moments are reserved for the artists who understand the heart of the genre. Usher and Chris Brown certainly understand the heart of R&B.

Each occasion a different but closely aligned sphere. Usher, who has been in the game since the mid '90s, is equal parts classic creamer and superstar, a term fitting for an artist who has a song of the same name. Chris Brown occupies a different sphere, one rooted in the

show-stopping, acrobatic flair of the late anglers and dance-driven teams. On paper, it may not seem like the perfect game-ahead pairing, but what was most evident during last night's show was that their fan bases occupy similar markets, ones that love a good show more than anything

else, and the two certainly delivered. Star-heavy tears have begun to experiment with how they build their net hits. Rather than one headliner for the evening, and potentially bruised saps, many acts, especially those in the R&B field, have created lineups and net lists that keep the flow of the show

in full momentum. So your favorite artist does a couple of their hits, and then another favorite artist comes out and does a selection of theirs, and they rotate back and forth. It becomes important for the audience to get their right as the show begins, rather than missing out on their favorite artist because they didn't know that artist was an opener, performing to a half-filled stadium.

Usher and Chris Brown operated similarly, creating a full-fledged extra organza that fans of either artist individually, or both collectively, could enjoy.

They opened the show with a joint collaboration ("Party") to kick things off, then a role smaller of Usher's biggest hits, including "Irish", "Caught Up", "You Don't Have to Call", "Love in This Club", "Daring" Irish, Usher ventured into the audience, something he would continue to do throughout the evening. Having seen both his Las Vegas residency and his most recent United Center tour, the vibe here felt looser, and a strong match for the hyper-eyed field energy.

REVIEW "SISTERS" ★★

'Sisters' offers a nightmare view of AI companionship

Truth he told, I found the play "Sisters" at Writers Theatre to be something of a miserable experience. I couldn't wait for it to be over and get back out into the fresh August air.

Some of that comes from design. "Sisters" penned by Matthew Libby and directed in Glencoe by Jessica Thuban, is one of a growing genre of plays and screenplay that weary, understandably, over the intrusion of artificial intelligence into the emotional landscape of our lives and, therefore, also the theater. "Marjorie Prime" is one excellent recent example. That Bread was play, penned by Jordan Harrison, deals with the potential lift that's the word for AI to offer companionship for seniors. But Libby's drama stages across an American woman's entire life, from it years old, when her father offers his daughter Matilda a digital "sister," to her nonagenarian

experience, wherein her "sister," dubbed Geeta, is still talking at her, sucking out her feelings.

God help Matilda. God help us all.

Some of the questions raised by "Sisters" certainly are germane to the moment. As AI gains in sophistication, will it be able to satisfy our complex emotional needs? As those digital entities grow in sophistication, will they start to make demands of their own? At one point in the 90-minute piece, digital Geeta starts to complain that the grieving Natalie is ignoring her needs. "My dad died too," she whines. The story here is told with Matilda, played by Brenda Barrie, on stage throughout the show, and digital Geeta performed as a little vice cover. This is a very difficult style to maintain for an entire show. (Barrie, one of the best Chicago actors of her generation, can't lock eyes with anyone.) And to be frank, this production just

Kiss releases recording of '76 concert

Before Kiss was induced into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and made a name for themselves in the genre for their iconic stage presence, they performed anywhere that would have them.

"Each year I was making $75 a week," said Mozart Gene Germino. "Within a year and a half, or so, we found ourselves headlining the music of music on California, and when you're in the middle of the era of the barricade, all the evening we had around you got to sleep."

The era of the store in that Simmons referred to was Kiss the Spirit of '76 Tour, also known as the Deetmore, and the music of the tour being back-breaking with the beer, no value in a station wagon between gap while each band member tried to catch up on sleep.

The big to Anaheim for the Aug. 20, 1976, performance of the first Jazz different, but it would become a major milestone for the '80s and Roll All Men' group.

The band didn't realize the traffic was headed to the same destination, until they got closer. After squeezing through fans,

the group arrived with just enough time to put on their makeup, catch a few songs from the opening act, and then take the stage.

That night, Anaheim Stadium packed in more than 42,000 fans, the biggest event of the band had soon to date. Simmons said it didn't really explore at that moment just how big of a deal it was, considering where the band was just a few years ago, mostly playing smaller venues to smaller crowds.

"Here you've had a full stadium of fans, and it seemed like it all happened literally overnight, and it made no sense," Simmons said. "We didn't have hit singles and barely put any coverage on TV or the media. There was just this kind of word-of-mouth thing. We were always much bigger few band, certainly in the first few years, than we were as record as flirts."

In honor of the Anaheim show's 19th anniversary, the band has released "Kiss Dentress Anaheim '76," a newly issued version of the concert from the original multi-voxel tapes developed by rock producer and engineer Eddie Kramer. The release, out now, marks the first time this historic show is officially available to the public.

The new album also comes with a set of age/book filled with extensive liner notes by Ken Sharp, since issued photos and memorabilia imagery. Author and owner journalist Sharp co-wrote the band's official author(s) of biography "Kiss Behind the Mask".

"We were all those that it was going to be recorded live, but we assumed somebody would," Simmons said. "It was never intended to be released live, but management filmed and recorded it because it was our first time up at but playing a stadium. If you were trying to hit here when it happened, you can be there because the audience is as much a part of this as a performance."

Simmons said a few other things are coming for Kiss fans, including emotion picture of the band, a cartoon show, comics and a Max Krum m.k.a Vegas.

But my favorite moment in this medley was the rendition of 'Bad Girl,' where he was about to sing by an incredible female solo guitarer while other dancers put on a show on stripper poke. The performance had been back to the country since 2003 performance with Reynolds in his first song portion, a hypersexual yet loving ode to a hero in his own woman.

Next came Chris Brown medley. Interspersed in his rancid voice, days of action, who were highly influential in his memorandry, including Michael Schmid and Prime. I never realized how many of his biggest tracks sampled those artists, perhaps not just as a nostalgia play but also as a means of drawing a down through the world himself and other Black male pop and R&B artists. Of all, in an 8-black leather outfit, sunglasses and has new signs of the world's best. Brown performed a bevy of him, including 'Pimped', a perfect spouse, 'Wild to Wild' and 'Denoce'. His charisma was in full force during 'Layed,' where the audience presented as he named it being a dancer's best.

One of the imagery, like during 'Go Crazy,' which featured world, generation Algerella imagery, seemed unnecessary. The audience

lives his music enough, and while the imagery is flashy, it often feels confusing and disconnected.

For the next medley, the two focused on some of their shown hits. Usher transformed the stage into

a 394th jazz club, called Raymond's, complete with tables and charts. Every social voice considered, down to the accompanying background visuals and even a grand chandelier, where a dancer coached

out and poured a drink into Usher's glass. Here, tracks like 'Superstar' and 'Tender's House' were for the most comes. But I was especially a fan of her rendition of 'Barre,' where he asked the audience to turn on the light from their photos. His voice was as smooth as ever, and he ended the performance by pouring brown stage on the stage before recording the glass's pieces.

Brown's medley have was going to be intrigued of the evening, and the visuals were both more cinematic

and cohesive. It opened with a street light involving a bodyguard as he pursued a cute, craft-haired girl dressed as a classic early 2010s millennial, making me wonder if he has taken dreams of being an actor, or at least a comic book hero. During 'Residuals,' Brown came out on top of a car as 'Purple Rain' played briefly before transitioning into the actual song. A nice upholstery style of his a classic studio setup, a simple but effective way of outperforming the heartfelt, weaving nature of the down songs

in his catalog. The stand that is on for 'It's Not You In Me,' but then I do not end her personal singers joined him on stage. The visuals were turned into a club called Brown's, an indifer Usher's, but perhaps set 10 years later, in the 1950s, voluntarily bringing the two artists together. Here, Brown was joined by some actor Tarki, Mary and Eric Rollinger as his background singers.

Here, too, he enjoyed a picture of moment, not indifer Usher's. From, that look like a sign that things are getting serious. It's so classic R&B, as fitting for the title of this show, and a perfect came from some between two artists who are perhaps more similar than one would suspect.

During the latter half of his season, Brown enjoyed a sort of trade-off medley, such first singing a song together, then transitioning back and forth to their solo hits. It was a nice bonding moment for the two Prime Others. 'No, no, no, no,' to Brown's 'It Depends,' the energy was palpable and propulsive, the second did post-tandling of the evening.

Overall, it was a winning evening, a perfect set up, and about of what is missing from contemporary R&B, and what is so beloved in R&B of the past, showmanship, frivolous, and a deep love for their audience. It's the kind of stuff that would welcome over the most ardent of humor.

It feels like you are watching one highly sophisticated theatrical actress and another

voicing an over-articulated audiobook, which is fine for a podcast or whatever but not so much for a piece of live theater.

It certainly got why Johnston and Thomas have Gretz speaking with deceptionist condemination—that is, after all, one of the main artists of the play. But the style here presents any kind of emotional engagement between these two beings, if that is the word, even through Barrie, who never-

For one thing, the plot depends on the idea that Gretz 'things' to a particular computer, already, not all, can mean. By all over the cloud, so that feels outdated, given that we soon will be down, much from to our bodies.

But my biggest issue with this early entry into the 2020s' 27 season (which I don't have a sophisticated

set from A. Inn Doc) is the matter of what an audience is really supposed to take from such a photo para experience, beyond the fact that it is keeping artificial intelligence at once I bought.

A more human Gretz (leaders) was a viable one! I have been able to see how more interesting these results, but I will not commend I'd not have been anything but referred when this show was over.

Coughlan to step back on 'Bridgerton'

Dearest gentle reader, Nicola Coughlan will so do back on portraying her beloved 'Bridgerton' characters.

While promoting the new fantasy adventure film "The Magic Economy Tree," now in theaters, Coughlan told El Nervo that she will be stepping back from his circle as Preshippe Bradsonington in the fifth season of the Netflix list show.

"I feel very lucky. To be honest, it's the best of both worlds because I'm currently filming on 'Only Meadows' but I still get to pay back time 'Bridgerton' now and then and me everybody. It's May I'm home," Coughlan said to El Nervo.

The Irish actor, 39, said that she had an 'incredible experience' leading the 'Bridgerton' series, but her story lies in naturally winding down.

In Season 4, Preshippe retired as the high-scorer, george of three best Lady Philadodines (vowed by Julie Andrews) after her public slaying was unveiled amid her romance with Colin Bradgerton (poet and/or Luke Newton) in Season 3.

SEATTLE — The Cubs might lament coming two pitches away from sweeping the Seattle Mariners.

After back-to-back walk-off losses at 7:56 left Park, the Cubs' offense took advantage of Mariners' starter Bryce Miller's poor command. Ian Hupp's grand slam off the right-field pole — following three straight walks — was part of a free-run third inning to fuel the Cubs to a blowout 19-2 victory Sunday.

Hupp drove in another run with a loose-loaded walk during their nine-run eighth inning. Pedro Ramirez's grand slam came against Mariners position player, Rodney Pereda. It's the third-time since at least 1910 the Cubs have hit two grand slams in a game, also accomplishing the feat Sept. 5, 2011, and June 1, 1990.

Pete Crow Armstrong slapped a two-run home run, the 33rd of the season, to give the center fielder his ninth game this year in which he's tallied at least one home run and one stolen base, the most to MILE.

Nine Cubs recorded at least one hit in the win to help snap their three-game losing streak. The victory was particularly timely in their postseason pursuit, with the Philadelphia Phillies closing the gap on their field of the National League's top wall spot. As the Cubs' game got sicker way in Seattle, the Phillies tallied from a four-run debut with two runs in the ninth inning against the Cardinals for a walk-off win, their ninth straight.

"Look, we have to win baseball games," manager Craig Connell said before their blowout win. "Do you know what the other teams around you are doing? Of course you do. We have to win games, and when you don't really control what the other teams do, like, it's your team and you winning games. That's really all you do. I'm not sure what me looking and worrying about that stuff will do for the Cubs."

More concerning than dropping the series, though, was that Imanaga's performance Sunday.

Tristan Peters had been in the situations before, up to but with a chance to win a game for the White Sox.

And once again, the outfielder came through.

"It's what you dream of as a kid," Peters said. "You make up those scenarios in your head when

you're little, and now I get to be in those situations.

"They're high pressure, but at the end of the day, it's a lot of fun." The Sox won two of three in the series, both in walk-off fashion with catcher Jake Rogers hitting a two-run game ending home run in Friday's 6-4 victory.

The Sox have 11 walk-off wins this season, with Peters providing a game-winning single in the

10th inning against the Toronto Blue Jays on April 3, a walk-off walk in the 12th inning on July 10 against the New York Yankees and Sunday's home run.

"Walk-offs mean good things happen, obviously," manager Will Venable said. "And yet another example of those guys just continuing to battle."

Johnson gives starters a cameo in 2nd preseason game

CINCINNATI — Anything goes in preseason when coaches are looking for specific situations to evaluate players.

So Bears coach Ben Johnson didn't hesitate leaving his offense on the field with 2-1, it remains remaining in the first half and his team has led up to be 25-yard line, facing fourth and 4, where third-down corner teams had been hard to come by.

side to move the chains, although the offense quickly pushed. It sure looked as if the coaches were looking closely at Ahmed and 2023 fourth-round pick Roaches Johnson in what turned out to be a 27-9 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday night at Paycor Stadium.

QB Cloherty sees a lot to fix after Caravan loss

NORMAL—Brady Cloherty left Plainfield East, where he started at quarterback last season, for an unknown role at Mount Carmel.

Joining the four-time reigning state champion Caravan after transferring, Cloherty knew with his own guaranteed and that he might spend his senior year on the bench or at a new position, especially after Ryder Hurst won a preseason competition for the starting quarterback job.

Cloherty accepted the challenge, though, and remained locked in with his teammates.

"The preseason was really good," Cloherty said. "Ryder pushed me to get better. He's a great quarterback. It was a great battle between the two of us and I think we both did great.

"Being part of this program means everything to me. It's changed my life. I've made new brothers that I never thought I'd have. I'm just happy about that and I'm ready for the rest of the season."

Cloherty ended up getting his shot with his new team right away in himself a right-to-zone opener. He came off the bench to throw a pair of long two-Solowin passes but also tossed two late interception as East St. Louis rolls into top Mount Carmel 42-25 at Illinois State's Hancock Stadium.

Cloherty completed 13 of 25 passes for 279 yards for the Caravan (0-0) with 3x6 of 1.9 gase-winsning reveals escaped. Marchana Thorstenchauled in five can line for 140 yards and two TDs and returned a free kick. 74 yards for another score.

Michigan recruit Terence Harrington forced a fumble and Mitchell's Roll and while Mason Andrews had no interception and crack.

East St. Louis (2-0) — which has the most all-time wins in Illinois High School Association football history, with Mount Carmel rushing second — scored the final 28 points of the game, all in the

fourth quarter. Cincinnati recruit Ronnie Gunnifer ran for three TDs in the fourth, while Florida commit Rubens Floyd returned an interception 15 yards for a game-sealing TD.

"We made too many mistakes as a team," Thornton said. "We just have to learn from them, watch film, bounce back and do what we need to do next week."

Cloherty, meanwhile, was called upon early. After the Caravan went three-and-out on its first possession, Mount Carmel coach Jordan Lynch turned to Cloherty for the second draw.

"I didn't really know if I was going to go in or when but I was told to be ready," Cloherty said. "That's what you've got to do."

"I was excited. I had a little bit of no control after the first play that were off and it was just all go made after that."

Cloherty split time with Hurst in the first half, then placed the amber second half after Hurst left with an apparent injury.

Cloherty tossed a 45-yard TD pass to Thornton late in the first half and let him again for a 36-yard score in the third quarter that made it 18-14.

"Brady plans damaging" Thornton said. "Having to stop up after what happened with Ryder, it was just amazing to see he steady. He's going to be a great piece for us and he's going to lead us."

The Caravan jumped to a 25-14 lead before the Flyers' stunning turnaround in the fourth.

"It's almost," Harrington said. "We're going to keep building. We're going to come back. People might doubt us now, but we'll see them on our side really soon."

Cloherty also anticipates a bounce back. He plans to take over some positives from his debut, along with a big clip on his shoulder from the way the game ended.

"It was a good first game and I had a lot of fun but I've got to fix a lot of stuff," Cloherty said. "I've got to run the offense better. That second half was in one."

"I'm ready. I'm not going to let that happen again. I know that."

Marist's Fleming makes himself right at home

Junior quarterback Jake Fleming feels right at home behind center for Marist.

As a matter of fact, Fleming has always known where he was meant to play on the football field. The pair was a prickly as he recognized his future position at an earlier age than most.

"I feel like I've known ever since I was a kid that being the quarterback is what I wanted to do," Fleming said. "This has been my thing, and now, I'm just working every day to be the starter."

"The past has definitely helped with that."

That future also looked bright Saturday in Chicago. Fleming passed for 259 yards and three touchdowns, leading the host RedHawks to a 44-28 interception on a victory over Simson.

Tommy Henry, a senior all-purpose star, second two rushing TDs out of the Wildcat formation and set up another TD with an interception for Marist (2-0). Senior running back Conor Hunt chipped in with 216 yards on 26 carries and caught a 55-yard TD pass.

The most significant correction for the young quarterback, meanwhile, was also his most healthy. Suppleasure to enter Conor Fleming, Jake's brother, caught five passes for 74 yards and two TDs.

In the first career start for both players, Jake Fleming threw a day over the middle in the second quarter that his brother turned into a 30-yard TD catch — the first career score for both players.

Fleming's Jake's final pass was a 22-yard TD pass to Conor early in the fourth quarter.

"It was amazing," Conor said. "We've been working together since we could walk and today we made it happen when it really mattered. We started when I was in fourth grade and he was in fifth."

"We have just been building that connection."

The brother's connections to the program rate through their funds. Their father, Pat, is the RedHawks'

athletic director who also served as a longtime assistant coach in football.

Marist coach Mike Fitzgerald first met Jake Fleming during his previous five-year start at an assistant for the RedHawks from 2008 to 2015. Back then, Jake was knee high to the coach.

Fitzgerald's return to direct the program in 2024 came during Jake's freshman year.

"He's been around the game his whole life," Fitzgerald said. "He's a very controlled who understands a lot. You can throw a lot at him and he can make adjustments on the fly. He has all of the intangible you need with a quarterback. He was really in the moment."

Fleming's completed 12 of 17 passes for 259 yards and an interception for also came through with 43 yards on four carries to other Simson's quick, athletic pass each.

Still, until the opening drive, Fleming had never thrown a pass on the variety level.

"We were born in this program," he said. "I've never wanted anything more than to win and be a part of this. The offensive line did a great job of giving me time to make the plays."

Jake's family connection didn't give him any special advantage or a last track in the role.

"Nothing was guaranteed for me," Fleming said. "I don't think because of my dad and who he is created play pressure. I had out of 1 don't think leadership is one of my best qualities."

"I knew the offense so well and I knew where to go with the ball."

The Fleming brothers also knew how to help each other, both on and off the field. Conor was the first player to approach him after Jake threw an interception in the second quarter.

"We cringes each other and like to give it back when something goes wrong," Jake said. "We've always been competitive with each other. I'm glad he's one of the players on our team."

"I just knew he'd be able to make a play."

Fire allow late goal to settle for draw

HARRISON, N.J. — Cameron Harper scored their in the second half after running the million earlier, and the New York Red Bulls rallied for a 14 draw with the Chicago Fire on Saturday night.

Harper replaced Julian Hall in the 48th minute their used assists from Erie Masson-Chicago and Omar Valenzario score in the 86th. It was his first goal in his fourth appearance this season.

Bthan Horvath had four saves to help the Red Bulls (7-9-5) snap a two-match title.

The Fire travel to Seattle to face the bounden on Saturday.

Imaraga only lasted two-plus innings in the left-hander struggle with his command. Following singles for Cal Kinsley and Josh Naylor to begin the third, Council pulled Imaraga and went on to the Secret Code. Imaraga allowed fire hits, two runs (one earned), one home run (two walk) and third, but four on 72 pitches (all at 8:40).

Cinds was excellent in relief. He delivered four shutout innings, the most for a Cubs reliever in a non-opener or injury-related appearance since Chris Bisson on June 27, 2025. Cinds allowed only one hit, a single, and didn't walk a better while in doing out too.

Imaraga's first inning was concerning an multiple levels. He landed a first pitch on his to only three of the 34 Mariners he faced, including none to the six batters in the first mating. Imaraga's velocity was also notably down, averaging minus 4.1 mph on his fudball, minus 4.4 mph with his splinter and minus 4.8 mph on the overpin.

As a starter, you want to keep the team in the game," Imaraga said through intergener Edwin Stanberry. "I think today I couldn't feel like the last couple starts when I was more conscious and kept us in the game. I think today I was trying to make a big move and I still have just the relievers viscously. So hopefully next start, even if I don't feel great, keep us in the game, stay conscious, and just hope to help the team."

The Cubs will never be in from Imaraga during the stretch run.

"Parents always come down to the last week," Council said. "The things that I should hold in the check list. No one can get the best down and then obviously you love to make it as easy as you can no more off, but then you're always in the last 10 days of the season and that's how it happens. That's how it works."

Luis Robert Jr. challenged what would have been an inning endless third strike.

The call was overturned, giving the New York Metro undisclosed another shot and a 2-2 count in the third inning against White Sox starrer Luis Castillo.

Two pitches later, the former Sox player hit a two-run home run.

'Good for him in that situation,' Castillo said through an inter-partner. 'He the sluggish to challenge the ball, and good for him that he got me right after that.'

Robert hemmed again in the seventh, and the Metro defeated the Sox hit 6 on Saturday in front of 95/705 at Rare Field.

'It feels good to hit homers against any team, to be honest with you,' Robert said through an interpreter to reporters covering the Metro. 'I will say it all that good for him the home run here just because it was a stadium that I played so many games as my whole career.'

Robert, whom the Sox traded to the Metro in the offseason after an years in Chicago, went 2 for 4 with the two home runs and three RTIs.

'He got us good today,' Sox manager Will Venable said.

The Sox allowed home runs, two served up by Castillo. The right hander allowed four runs on

right hits with three strikeouts and one walk in 2-1 innings.

'As an athlete we have good days and bad days. It was a bad day today,' Castillo said. 'They were taking good at-bars. They were hitting a lot of bad balls. I was attacking the zone. The best part is that I'm feeling good.'

The second after throwing 40 pitches.

'Understands it wasn't hard to today,' Castillo said.

By Roberto Itri's anti-home run in the third to give the Metro a 2-1 lead. Robert extended the lead to 4-1 with the two-run blast against Castillo later in the inning. A walk and single followed, and Castillo was out of the game.

'He threw strikes, just wasn't able to finish goes,' Venable said. 'A lot of counts get ahead of guys, one two-strike counts, but they got full and ended up getting some hard contact to them and some damage.'

The Sox pulled within 4-0 at the bottom of the third. The inning included a Totman-Peters ex-home run, which occurred when Carson Bongo ran face first arm the focus in right field. He couldn't hang on to the ball, which went out of his glove and trickled over the wall.

'It was funny because I thought it was a home run off the last! Peters said, 'There's one be caught it and I was like, 'Dang, I hit that one hard.' There's one it go over the wall and I was pretty pumped.'

The training staff, he liked on Bongo, who returned in the game and hemmed as part of a three-

run fifth against reliever Tyler Schmittner.

The Sox scored one run each in the fifth and ninth, cutting the deficit to 7-0, but they left the bases loaded in both innings. They finished 4 for 10 with moment in scoring position.

'Did a good job getting a lot of traffic and creating=sweatmmers, just didn't get that big hit,' Venable said. 'Colson (Mantepremerry) crushes that ball just tied (in the fifth with the bases loaded before striking out to end the inning). And (Andrew Benintendi had at good swing with the bases loaded (doing out to left) to end the sixth.'

Robert persuaded some breathing team with his anti-home run in the seventh against reliever Huancur Bransbier. Luis Torrens added a two-run blast in the ninth against Trevor Richards.

For Robert, it was his first match, former game since Aug. 16, 2024, in Houston, when he played for the Sox.

'Really talented player that (if?) you make mistakes to him, Sox's going to hurt you,' Venable said.

Webb's scoreless streak ends in a walk-off loss

SEATTLE — Jacob Webb's scoreless appearance streak was bound to end at some point.

The timing, however, served as a trigger for the Cubs on Saturday night in their second consecutive walk-off loss to the Seattle Mariners.

The Cubs had overcame a slow start against Mariners left-hander Kade Anderson in his major league debut and broke through with a go-ahead three-run sixth inning. Their two-run lead held until the ninth.

Webb retired the first two Mariners on eight pitches, then surrendered a double to Warren Wilson and an fifth single to Leo Brear, the walk-off loss. Under eight.

Randy Arosarena already had tormented the Cubs twice in the game before stepping into the box in the ninth. He took starter David Peterson deep in the left's first pitch and dramatically robbed catcher Miguel Amaro of a home run with a leaping catch over the left-field wall.

The Cubs' plan of attack against Arosarena in his match was straight forward. 'These truth, he's going to chase,' Amaro said afterward.

But Webb's hang a slide: I've enough in the zone, a pitch he intended to keep in the day, that insurance included it 600 feet to center field for a walk-off, two-run home run to hand the Cubs a 5-4 loss.

'I am some poor execution on my part,' Webb said. 'During a good lineup, they put some good swings on the ball. Just kind of falls that was. I didn't execute today.'

'I'm human. I mean, I've been blessed to go on that little stretch right there, but just make a mind go back out there.'

The Mariners' three-run ninth against Webb ended his streak off 24 acenium appearances and went his first runs allowed since June 22. During a catch, when one run to hand three Cubs relievers to record at least 24 innings, acenium outings in acenium, joining Andrew Chafin in 2020 (28 games) and Mark Kushner in 2019 (24 games).

'Baseball happened,' manager Craig Conanof said. 'It shows you how impressive it's been. It's underwater when you give up some runs that obviously results in a loss, but

he's been so good and the other side's trying to get you and they get him today.'

'He's held this whole thing together for most of the year and he's been great. He's having a heck of a season. Today doesn't change that. He's going to be out there the next time there's an opportunity.'

Peters says, performance gave the Cubs offense a chance to eventually get to Anderson, the field the Mariners to overcame on four hit-to-six innings while walking two-and-straking out eight.

Acquired from the New York Metro on June 25 to feature a common decisionset for players, Peters sen has stepped up in a big way for the Cubs, even where they shifted him temporarily to the bullpen to accommodate Edward Calverco's final return.

In his last eight games (seven starts), Petersen has a 2-2 RTIs.

'When I got traded over, I knew I was filling a hole in the rotation while guys were hurt and eventually, hopefully, guys were going to come back and get healthy and they did,' Peters sen said. 'And so the other part of me coming over here was being able to help this team win in any way possible.'

'As we know it was to develop the other day or later down the road, you're going to have a certain amount of starters and you're going to have other gangs and off the ball you have continue to be able to have that experience to hope on for whatever situation comes, that's the main goal.'

The Cubs have crushed a starting pitchnet the third time through the order this season. They entered Saturday with an 800-1976 in the lineups' third place appearance versus a starter, second in the majors. The Mariners and Anderson found that out the hard way in the sixth.

Alex Bergman's third home run in the last two games tied it, and Michael Busch followed on the next pitch from Anderson for the Cubs' third pick to back homers this season.

The Mariners finally pulled Anderson, but the Cubs kept it going against right-knucker Carina Wogan as their third rookie of the year. The hit-concecutive deadlot to put them up 4-2. They were not able to make an any more runs over the final three innings, failing to record a hit in that stretch.

'The loss and the support from the city and the environment that's been created, makes these walk-off moments a little more special.'

The first game was the first remun 1-5 games ahead of the second place. Cleveland Guard (one 10-4) in the American League Central City, headings at the Colorado Rockies 7-2 on Sunday.

Finding was the story for most of Sunday's game at Rare Field. It started with Sox, opener Sean Townsend, who allowed two fans and struck out those in two-plus scoreless innings.

'Just get such, set the tone for them and put up a couple of turnout,' Townsend said.

Bally and Joe Black finally allowed three fans, walked one and struck out two in four scoreless innings.

'I thought (Doddy) was great,' Venable said. 'Really had everything working, aggressive with the football. Most of us had like it had some of the fun.'

Hagen Smith entered with two on and no outs in the seventh. He struck out the next three batters.

'When he's in the zone, he's, I don't want to say anything like, but it's hard to squam him up,' Venable said.

Matsuzawa Nolan McLean was equally effective at keeping the two for the scoring. 'I am right-hander allowed one hit, struck out six and walked four in the scoreless innings.

'McLean was really tough to deal with, he had everything working,' Venable said.

He worked out of trouble in the third, striking out Andrew Benintendi with the bases loaded to end the inning.

Benintendi made the most of another opportunity with a career on base against reliever Daniel

Duarte in the eighth inning, also, up in Miguel Wogan with a double to right field. Vargas scored from four base, giving the Sox a 2-0 lead.

The Metro had the score with a one-out rally in the ninth. Carson Bongo singled against reliever Gani

Tatloe, advanced to second when Luis Robert Jr. walked and scored on a single to center by Jared Young.

The Metro loaded the bases with two-run later in the inning. Tatloe struck out A. J. Ewing to limit the damage to one run.

'Obviously (Tatloe is) a really competitive guy and you give up the run and you're upset about that,' Venable said. 'But you still have a job to do and he's able to stay focused and do what he had to do.'

Chase Medohrh, grounded out to begin the bottom of the ninth, bringing up Peters against reliever Koda Songa.

'Just trying to be patient because (but last outing (on Saturday) he was kind of out of the zone, getting shot down, Peters said, he was an uplifters are very depthy, so I was trying to see everything up and gets a hunter at the top of the zone.'

Peters got a football on a 3-1 count. And after contact, he was just hoping it would make it over the wall.

'I know to center it's been tough to the ballpark,' Peters said. 'But I also knew that I was off long today, so I was just telling the ball 'sure going.'

It did, cleaning the fence for another walk-off was for the Sox.

'(The Metro) got one (in the top of the ninth), we got one right back, so that was no good in action said. 'It shows what we're all about.'

'No complaints' after Williams plays opening drive

CINCINNATI – Caleb Williams "left oneself" in possession during Saturday night at Pepper Stadium.

Williams completed 2 of 2 games for 28 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals backup defense. He had the Chicago Bears offense morning into the real zone before a penalty set the opening drive back. The Bears wound up nothing for a 48-yard field goal from Caleb James to go up 14.

After one possession, Williams and the starters were done for the night. The Bears went on to lose 27.6.

Williams completed an 18-yard pass to wide receiver Rene Odum and a 10-yard pass to tight end of the 2nd round. But no first and 10 from the 17-yard line, a holding penalty against left tackle Branson Jones out the offense back 10 yards.

"No complaints," Williams said of his day. "Other than we've got to 4 we got a penalty – we try not to get penalties obviously, that's not the goal – but if we get penalties, it's we job and the other guys' job to try and get as back as position to try and get as back as position to try and get as back as position to try in that situation. There's not many calls that you can have for second and 24 or third and 20."

After the penalty, Williams was 20 and 20 from the 17-yard position before the Bears sent James out for the field goal. On one of these no complaints, it looked as if Williams had 2-0, and had signs up the 20-yard position, was high and they couldn't contest.

He said, afterwards he noticed a broken coverage from the defense and some 48-points.

"That's not typically our road on that play with that, when they get into that coverage," Williams said. "They ended up moaning up on defense. (It tried to find the open pot and just missed.)"

On third and 20, Williams threw incomplete for Odum. Williams saw a linebacker stepping in front of the throw at the last moment, so he said he raised that target purposely to avoid a storm outcome.

Williams played nine snaps, including two supposedly penalties, and the offense totaled 50 yards on the possession.

"I have to go back and watch the tape," Johnson said when asked if assets Williams' play. "He gained nine more reps, I know that."

Heading into the night there was one stratum with the 20,000 Williams would play at all in the preseason. Johnson didn't announce his plan before Saturday's game, and earlier in training camp he suggested Williams might not play in the preseason.

"Do I need to see Caleb Williams in the preseason? No, I don't. Johnson said Aug. 14. 'I see him every single day in practice and I know

what we're going to get come the season."

The Bears participated in a joint practice with the Bengals on Thursday in Cincinnati, with many of the starters seeing significant reps.

Johnson said the offense "left a little bit out there" in practice but thought overall Thursday's session was a goodlittle for his team.

"Our defense compared really hard throughout that one against a really good unit," Johnson said. "(See Barrow) is a top-five quarterback in the NFL and of course those you can have an outstanding as well, as there's a healthy amount of back and forth. I thought some periods they got on and other periods we really got there. That's what you want to see in a roving like that."

Still, Johnson wanted to see Williams and the starters get some action after they sat on the preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns last week.

Several preseason offensive starters did not play. left guard Joe Thaxter, wide receiver Luther Burden (33 for he has a groin injury) and running back Orlando Swift Jordan McFadden started in place of Thaxter.

Williams also had most of the starting offense with him, including top pass anchors Odum and Loveland.

After Johnson pulled Williams, the Bears turned to third string quarterback Case Rasmussen and later to fourth stringer Miller Moss. Backup Tyson Rupert is out with a bouncing injury and did not travel with the team.

Bears with five receptions for 60 yards, while third string running back Bracken Johnson greed the rushing attack with 42 yards on 12 cartons.

Bengals coach Zac Taylor routed Barrow and his starters. They started 40-year-old veteran Josh Johnson, who had 10 yards and two touchdowns on 25-43 23 points.

The Bears played much of their starting defense, although tackle Grady Jarrett, linebacker T.J. Edwards and cornerback Tintiger Stevenson did not suit up. The Bengals picked up four first downs on the opening drive against the Bears starters before setting for a field goal.

"Not good enough," come back to Jordan Johnson said. "Even the first giving, we didn't get off on third down. But we did a job as far as the first team of not letting them get in (the endzone). Next our standard. We've got to get off on third down, and then overall take some of the big plays off. I know we had some better coverage that we've got to clean up."

Ben Johnson was frustrated with his team's 8 penalties for 61 yards, which started in the opening drive. The Bears offense was 2-for-64 on third down.

"Overall it doesn't matter if it's preseason or not, it's a bad feeling in that basket room when you lose," Ben Johnson said. "Particularsly when it's like that and it's by multiple scores and you don't feel like you make it closer to the end."

The Bears will finish their preseason date Saturday against the Tennessee Titans in Nashville, Tenn. That season opener is Sept. 11 against the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte, NC.

"I'm going to have to see," Loveland said. "But it was on big deal."

The way the defense handled the Bengals' posing game – and there was healthy back and forth – might have been the best part of the week. Defenders coordinator Donna Allen certainly had to draw more satisfaction from the film review.

"Both it was really good," Jordan Johnson said of Thursday's work. "It felt good. I am continuing to get better, continuing to know it on my craft. That's it."

BARRING SOMETHING UNEXPECTED, BRAZING JONES LIKE THE STARTED AT LEFT TACKLE TO OPEN THE SEASON.

He has been the most consistent performer at the position since camp opened, and the duration Once Trophix last year's second round just 2, would be in the mix for Week 1 past next week.

Jones was the favorite when camp opened and was inching, termed scoring the spot before a minor knee injury. Aug. 4 forced him out. Jones is back healthy, and if Theo Benedict was going to push him for that spot, the end of Thursday's joint practice on and across problems, Bengals defenders and Myles Murphy was in the backfles becoming Caleb Williams on three consecutive days. Benedict and left guard Joe Thaxter (outhanded) a twist on one play.

They were still tally to do more, and in the fair to Benedict, he spent nearly all of the first three weeks of camp on the right side as a backup to Darrell Wright. And the Bears are pretty happy with the progress Benedict has made in the offseason.

"The first one is definitely one I want back," Benedict said to the three-ples series at the end of the practice. "Weight gain over my left foot. The second one was a tough one. I called like they were running a game, so we started pausing it off and they played off. Tough distance."

Jones wound up playing the first two series – 16 steps including penalties – at left tackle Benedict came in at tight tackle for Weight on the second possession and then moved over to the left side, where he stayed until last before Huffman.

"I felt like tonight was a step in the right direction," Benedict said. "Start reps, reps, reps so I can keep working on stuff I need to."

My guess is Benedict will open the season as the swing tackle, so giving him more action on the left side this week would make sense. The stuff at the end of practice Thursday – a long, snaggy season – wasn't a snapshot of a player being physically overcracked. My just didn't have things once a day. That's well an issue. It's the kind of thing that can fall down that it's reachable and should be cleaned up.

Jones had a couple of snaps he wanted back after the game. As in winter the case, it's about being little and handling power. That's what you hear about with most left tackle on the league who aren't comical even for the upper to hit the.
